Hi !
Well ... here we go ...
I have decided to put this 'Blog' online as I am a total 'newbie' to any form of gardening .. and even more so .. an Allotment!
So why?
Well ... I'm currently 'unemployed' ... and I wanted to do something worthwhile with my 'freetime' ... not only because I just cant stand the current daytime TV options of 'DIY' and /or 'Car Boot Sale' programmes ... but also because I'm a single Dad (seperated for some 2 yrs. from my 'ex' - amicably (now!) I should add!) of a wonderful 3 1/2 yr. old boy (he is 4 in October) and I wanted to give both him and me something to do on a both personal and rewarding basis.
So ... how could I do this?Well ... I am very very lucky that I live right next door (in that I can see from my Kitchen window) a Local Council run Allotment site ... and moreso that it allows 'livestock' to be kept 'onsite' ...
"What has this to do with my 'blog'?" I hear you ask ? ...Well ... every time my boy (Connor is his name by the way!) stays with me he always hear's a 'Cock-a-Doodle-Doo' from the Allotments and has always wanted me to take him to see the 'birdies' :-) ... but because it has a large and padlocked fence surrouding it I could never do so ... but I had always promised I would take him someday.
What next?I took time-out to find what I could ... I visited the site and as luck would have it I met a guy - Micheal Cain (honest ... its his real name! great eh?) - who is the site Rep. who said some plots where available and was more than happy to show me around ... this he did ... and took me to a 'vacant' plot ... but told me it 'needed some work doing' even though the previous 'holder' was a dedicated and 'prize' grower ....
And?As luck would have it ... not only was it available ... it was 'right next door' to the very plot that had Connor's beloved 'Cock-a-Doodle-Doo's' !!!! ... so how could I refuse ? lol
So ... this is my 'story' in words and pics ...I only took possession of the plot on 4th July 2006 ... (absolutely NO experience ... am I mad ? lol) ... and recently decided to to maintain a 'Diary' of my 'trials & tribulations' with the Allotmant ... on my own and with Connor ... and record them for me and him ... & his Nanna & Grandad ( who live 300 miles away) ... which I hope will be an 'inspiration' for Connor in later years when he can remember his 'Old Man' working hard on this new project ... I also hope it will be an inspiration to others too ? ... so please 'bear with me' when I add 'photos' and /or 'words' on what I do / am doing ? ... thanks for reading anyway ! :))
PS ...Please note that some of my pics (if not most!) are 'date-stamped' and as such you should disregard some of the 'obvious discrepancies' on the differing dates ! :)) ... I will put it right ! lol
